Why Are Two MTB Companies Both Called Fox?
Two brothers but two very different companies
Back in the 1970s, Bob and Geoff Fox were just two brothers obsessed with motocross. At the time, dirt bike suspension was making major leaps, going from 5 inches to over a foot of travel. But there was one big problem—the shocks kept overheating.

Rather than settle for mediocre performance, the Fox brothers decided to take matters into their own hands. They started Fox Factory out of their garage, designing and building high-performance suspension to keep up with the rapidly evolving sport.
But like any good sibling rivalry, things didn’t stay peaceful for long.
A Business Split That Created Two Giants
Just four years in, the Fox brothers had a falling out. Geoff left the company, frustrated by constant arguments with Bob. Instead of working on suspension, he pivoted to riding gear and apparel, founding Fox Racing—all while still sharing a warehouse with his brother.
As both companies grew, they eventually went their separate ways. Fox Factory doubled down on suspension, expanding into mountain biking, off-road racing, and even high-performance automotive shocks. Meanwhile, Fox Racing became one of the biggest names in motocross and MTB apparel, covering everyone from dirt bikers to downhill racers.
Where Are They Now?
Fast forward a few decades, and both Fox brands are absolute juggernauts😀

📈 Fox Factory went public and is now worth over $1 billion.
👕 Fox Racing was most recently valued at $500 million before being acquired by Vista Outdoor in 2022.

Both companies continue to dominate their respective spaces, but one thing never changed—the name confusion..
